Mental health Stigma
People think badly or negatively about mental health and it is seen as a stigma. Most people have negative beliefs and attitudes about people who suffer from mental illness. The term “mental illness” can add to stigma. This stigma leads to discrimination. Discrimination can lead to bad comments about the mental health condition or treatment. People will avoid the person who is suffering from a mental health condition assuming that the person is not stable and can be dangerous or aggressive. Stigma affects self esteem and people believe they can not thrive and be successful in life. It can lead to harassment, bullying and harm.
Coping with Stigma

Don’t be afraid to get treatment. Treatment will help you manage your signs and symptoms and will decrease your problems you are facing.

National Alliance on Mental Illness also called as NAMI, provide resources which alleviates stigma by educating people regarding mental health conditions.

Breaking the Stigma::
Voice out your thoughts and views at events and online. This will help the public to know about mental health conditions and there is treatment available. Hence we create a safe environment which is very important to promote open discussions about your mental health. Safe space allows a person to reveal your experiences and feelin without being judged and causing a negative impact.
